Oil prices fall on Saudi comments
Monday, March 24, 2008
BBC News -- At one point US light sweet crude fell to $100.02 per barrel in Asian trade. It later stood at $101.65 in New York.

Commodities, including oil, have been sensitive to changes in the dollar's value and the latest rebound for the dollar has weakened oil prices.

Also Saudi Arabia said on Sunday that it is investing in oil infrastructure to help meet future demand.

Saudi Arabia has been under pressure from the US to help ease soaring oil prices.

The end price is really controlled by how much the refineries keep in storage tanks.

After this story, oil dropped to the $99-range. Bush's trip to Saudi in late January and his photographed kissing the king must have been a real charmer to get te concession of increasing infrastructure. But as long as the 13-nation OPEC votes to keep production level, the Saudis will be in a bind. And then who will finance U.S. debt by buying hundreds of billions of U.S. Treasury bonds?

Does the media not know that the Sudias to not have the control over the price. It's the market speculators that control the price, which is bought with US dollars, which is at a very low value against the other currencys, which puts us in the pickle we have now.
Crazy, I know, but that the way it works.

luebird1 has a great point. However since there is still the stigma about Hemp & Hemp products(like clothing, wind breaks etc,) plus the fact that growing or possessing hemp in any form is illegal in much of North America does put a damper on what would otherwise be a logical, sensible & cost effective material to create methanol from. Oh yeh, logic does not appear to have any bearing on this type of thought.

keep talking
start drilling
nationalize the oil companies
or have at least one nationaly owned company[ I know it sounds socialist] that can be there to temper the competition and insure ongoing supplies

Hemp is one of many crops that grow like weeds, need little or no irrigation energy... roll on cellosic ethanol to replace corn-based.

The Saudi's will not do anything that will cause oil to drop. They don't care if we are in a economic down turn.

"Analysts say that speculators, who have helped drive up the price of oil, are taking the opportunity to cash-in on their gains.

Now if only we would encourage more refineries in the US. This way we can turn the oil into our fuel.

If we had more refineries the price of oil wouldn't affect us. We get most of our oil from mexico and canada. The problem is they have to do most of the refining and that costs them money. They pass it on to us and far down the line after everyone has had their hands on it we get the extremely jacked up prices at the pumps. If we could refine our own oil it would be so much cheaper. If you can't support yourself you are dependent on others not to screw you.

We can only hope that any positive action will result in some lowering of prices at the pump.

I think there is a supply problem. The Saudis are not known for their truthfulness or forthcoming-ness. So I completely accept the possibility that Saudis are running out but you gotta play possum so your own fortunes don't get hurt. After oil, they'll be nothing but a big pile of sand with a lot of corrupt and angry males wondering why they no longer matter...

I didn't think that the Saudi's were driving the prices. Just recently there was an article about the willingness of the Saudi's to sell oil at $80 per barrel.

The last time that oil was at $100, the prices were in the 2.80 range. Today it is at 3.20. What's up with that?
